Priorities Of The NFC East Teams

Here are the free agent priorities of the Eagles and their NFC East rivals according to the Sporting News.

 Philadelphia Eagles Free Agent Priorities

1. Tra Thomas, LT, Eagles
Right tackle Jon Runyan, 35, recently had microfracture surgery, and backup tackle Winston Justice is on the trading block. That means the Eagles will be thin if they don't re-sign Thomas. Failing that, the team likely would fill the position (or positions) by shifting a guard, Todd Herremans or Shawn Andrews, outside.

2. Albert Haynesworth, DT, Tennessee Titans
Mike Patterson and Brodrick Bunkley are young and excel against the run but they don't generate much of a pass rush. Haynesworth would be an every-down force.

3. T.J. Houshmandzadeh, WR, Cincinnati Bengals
Even with DeSean Jackson's emergence, the Eagles need a presence across the middle and on third down. Houshmandzadeh, 32, led the NFL in third-down receiving. A fallback option is the 49ers' Bryant Johnson.

4. Jeff Saturday, C, Indianapolis Colts
The Eagles don't need a center per se but would jump at the opportunity to add Saturday. They could then slide Jamaal Jackson to guard if Herremans or Andrews moves outside.

5. Leonard Weaver, FB, Seattle Seahawks
Weaver, a hybrid fullback/running back with reliable hands, is a perfect remedy for the Eagles, who asked defensive tackle Dan Klecko to play the position last season and struggled in short-yardage and goal-line situations.

New York Giants Free Agent Priorities

1. T.J. Houshmandzadeh, WR, Cincinnati Bengals
There is no way to find a comparable replacement to Plaxico Burress, as 6-5 receivers with speed and a huge wingspan are almost impossible to find. Burress faces a serious legal battle and possible jail time as a result of illegal gun charges.

2. Bart Scott, LB, Baltimore Ravens
The Giants patched their linebacker position together last season, and the results were not good. They were unable to replace Kawika Mitchell, who joined the Buffalo Bills via free agency. This team rarely shells out big money on linebackers, though.

3. Jermaine Phillips, S, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Kenny Phillips did not gain a starting job as expected his rookie year, but is waiting in the wings with the anticipated loss of James Butler. If Butler goes, it leaves youngsters Michael Johnson and Phillips. If the Giants want to add an impact player, Phillips is the best. The New England Patriots' James Sanders is a cheaper option.

4. Dominic Rhodes, RB, Indianapolis Colts
The anticipated loss in free agency of 1,000-yard rusher Derrick Ward leaves the offense without a proven backup to Brandon Jacobs. Coaches are high on Ahmad Bradshaw and also like Danny Ware. The Giants tried to sign Rhodes once before, and he would be a solid third-down back and a veteran presence.

5. Bertrand Berry, DE, Arizona Cardinals
Another defensive end for a team seemingly stacked with them? The Giants never believe they can have too many and if they move end Mathias Kiwanuka to linebacker there will be a need for a third end in a rotation with starters Justin Tuck and Osi Umenyiora. Veterans Renaldo Wynn and Jerome McDougle are free agents and not expected back, and Berry could fit nicely in as a swing end. Demetric Evans of the Redskins is younger and more of a run-stopper as an alternative.

Dallas Cowboys Free Agent Priorities

1. Ray Lewis, ILB, Baltimore Ravens
The Cowboys, who struggled with leadership and team chemistry in '08, would like to sign a proven leader. He would provide a strong locker room presence, influencing teammates on both sides of the ball. Deion Sanders and Terrell Owens have been lobbying Jerry Jones to sign him.

2. Miles Austin, WR, Cowboys
Austin is a restricted free agent and the only pure speed receiver on the roster. He averaged 21.4 yards per catch last season and had three touchdowns. He caught 13 passes for 278 yards but played in 12 games. Still, look for the Miami Dolphins to sign him to an offer sheet if the Cowboys don't give him a draft-pick tender.

3. Keith Davis, S, Cowboys
Davis led the Cowboys with 20 special teams tackles last season while also contributing on defense. A natural strong safety, he played on first and second down when Roy Williams broke his forearm. Davis gives the team energy.

4.Kevin Burnett, ILB, Cowboys
He has spent his career as a backup and wants to start, and Zach Thomas is not expected back. Burnett is a playmaker who excels in coverage. The question is whether he can stay healthy because he weighs about 230 pounds.

5. Stephen Bowen, DE, Cowboys
A restricted free agent who was undrafted, he had 17 tackles and is a solid backup. The Cowboys would like to have him back because he understands the system and is good in the locker room.

Washington Redskis Free Agent Priorities

1. DeAngelo Hall, CB, Redskins
After a midseason trade, Hall replaced Carlos Rogers in the starting lineup and gave them another playmaker opposite Shawn Springs. Hall was not a problem for the Redskins coaches or with his teammates. Dre' Bly drew the Redskins' interest two years ago.

2. Pete Kendall, G, Redskins
Potential replacement Chad Rinehart showed little as a rookie. Though Kendall is 35 and has creaky knees and a bad back, he always plays and is smart and steady. The Pittsburgh Steelers' Chris Kemoeatu is another option.

3. Demetric Evans, DE, Redskins
He fills a valuable role, playing inside or at left end. The Redskins don't need a big splash considering the depth at end in the draft. The team wants Phillip Daniels back, but if he leaves Evans must stick around.

4. Kedric Golston, DT, Redskins
Golston, who is a restricted free agent, is coming off his best season. He's a hard worker who understands leverage and started making more plays last season. Because he's young (he turns 26 in May) the Redskins can't afford to lose him.

5. Hunter Smith, P, Indianapolis Colts
The Redskins drafted Durant Brooks last year and cut him early in the season. They've cut his replacement, Ryan Plackemeier, and have no experienced punter on the roster.
