Newsday.com reports that Ravens free agent safety Jim Leonhard is "likely to visit" the Eagles , weather not withstanding.
The Eagles, who are in hot pursuit of the 27 year old Leonhard, need him desperately because they're not sure if 2nd year safety Quintin Demps is ready to start in the place of departed safety Brian Dawkins.
Leonhard viisited the Jets but left without a contract. Remember that he has played for new Jets head coach Rex Ryan.
He knows Ryan's defense and Ryan still has those pleasant memories of Leonhard forcing fumbles, picking off passes and pressuring quarterbacks into interceptions during the past playoffs.
I like Leonhard and noticed him while watching the Ravens. He's got great instincts and is a sure tackler. He does his best work up by the line of scrimmage. He's got a nose for the ball and is a playmaker.
Leonhard is also a surehanded punt returner which could give DeSean Jackson a break when he needs one.
