According to the Buffalo News, The Bills and left tackle Jason Peters are about $3 million per year apart in negotiations on a contract extention.
Peters is only 27 and has two years remaining on the deal. The article speculates that since he held out of training camp last year and might do it again, the Bills could be forced to trade him. They also say that there is already talk that the Eagles are a potential trade partner.
While it would be a fit, they need to calm down with the "there has already been speculation" stuff about the Eagles. Anyone can throw a name around and all of a sudden there is "speculation." And when it comes to an offensive lineman, running back, tight end or wide receiver, it's all too easy to throw the Eagles name in there without there being any truth to it. The Eagles have need, ammunition and cap room, so "speculation" is quite easy.
But looking at it pragmatically, I would think there is a better chance of the Eagles making a deal for Peters than for Boldin. Andy loves his offensive lineman, and for someone that likes to throw so much, he needs #5's blindside taken care of. Peters wasn't as good in 2008 as he was in 2007, but you could possibly attribute that to lost time due to his holdout. Depsite the looming labor issues, the Eagles shouldn't have a problem breaking the bank on a young left tackle.
Since I just chastised people for speculating, let's speculate. If the Eagles turned those two first-round picks into Anquan Boldin and Jason Peters, wouldn't that be a heck of a start to the Draft? How would they not instantly be the favorites in the division and most likely all of the NFC?
Then you tighten up the running back situation and you are off and running. Whatever, it's fodder for discussion anyway.
