Reid Talks About Dawkins’ Exit

For weeks, we have been waiting for this.  Well finally Andy Reid talked about Brian Dawkins' exit from Philadelphia.  He sat down with Dave Spadaro and answered some questions.

First of all, Reid said that the departure of Dawkins wasn’t something he wanted but it’s part of what happens in the NFL.  He emphasized that the offer Dawkins got from the Broncos was astonishing.

Reid thinks they have brought in a number of younger players who are ready to make major contributions at the safety position.  They’ve groomed second year defender Quintin Demps to step in and take over the position.

If that doesn’t work out they have the recently signed Sean Jones and Rashad Baker to take over.

Reid took some time to talk about the great contributions Dawkins made to the team.  Reid marvled at the type of player and person Dawkins was.  He said he thinks he's a Hall of Famer.

He said there is no rift between he and Eagles president Joe Banner because of what happened in the Dawkins situation.  He says both of them wanted Dawkins to stay here but he received a phenomenal deal from the Broncos.

Reid went on to say, that they’re in the business where change takes place. They have to move on.  There’s no animosity toward Brian and they wish him the best.

Reid expects others to pick up from Dawkins and take leadership roles.  Hopefully they have learned from Brian.  He wants to see them bring their own energy to the situation.

According to Reid, Dawkins left a legacy at the safety position, which will not be matched.

Reid says he doesn’t expect his current safeties to match Dawkins but he does think they’re good enough to win a championship with.
