The Eagles have just announced that they have signed veteran fullback Leanard Weaver. This is great news for the Birds who have had a back up defensive tackle, Danny Klecko playing fullback for them.
Weaver played his first four years with the Seattle Seahawks. He will give the Birds a fullback who can both block at the position and be a threat to both run and catch the football.
He is said to have signed a contract worth $2.5 million dollars.
According to ESPN, his has a one-year deal that will pay him $1.75 million but could increase to $2.5 million if he achieves incentives.
The signing of Weaver will be great news for Brian Westbrook who took a beating a year ago while running behind a fullback who was learning the position and tight ends who couldn't block a lick.
Here is running the ball which he has done about 30 times a season. He did catch 39 passes in 2007.
He signed with the Seahawks as an undrafted free agent out of tiny Carson Newman College.
With this signing the Eagles have addressed three positions in free agency; the fullback position with Weaver, the offensive tackle spot with Stacy Andrews and the safety position with Sean Jones and Rashad Baker.
It's not exactly breaking the bank but it's movement.
