Pro Days – Moreno, Wells & McCoy

I’m sure some Eagles representatives were in Georgia on Wednesday afternoon, checking out Bulldog running back Knowshon Moreno.

According to Todd McShay of ESPN, Moreno improved on his 4.62 forty yard dash time.  He ran a 4.56 which was an improvement but not anything groundbreaking.

Moreno tested well in the agility drills, which is the key to his running style.

Teams that like this kid shouldn’t be turned off by his forty time because he’s not a speed back.  This kid is the kind of back who wears down a defense by keeping the sticks moving.

I just don’t see an Eagles team which can’t throw the ball enough, being satisfied with a guy who doesn’t make the big run but keeps the sticks moving.

Moreno gets better the more times you give him the ball and he’s got a strong lower body which allows him to run through tackles.

He showed a good pair of hands and has quick feet along with good vision.

How much stock do you put in a running back catching the ball well at a Pro Day even though he never caught the ball out of the backfield during his collegiate career.

CHRIS "BEANIE" WELLS

Reports say that Ohio State’s Chris “Beanie” Wells caught the ball well during his Pro Day in Columbus last week.

Of course many of feel like a big back would be a great complement for Brian Westbrook but for some reason Andy Reid and Eagles have never thought much of that idea.

Wells showed his speed at the workout by running low 4.5’s in the forty and exhibiting surprising adeptness at running routes out of the backfield.

It all comes down to how much stock the Eagles put in a workout.

LESEAN MCCOY

LeSean McCoy missed the Combine workouts because he was suffering from the flu.  He worked out recently at the University of Pittsburgh and was somewhat disappointing.

The scouts check for explosion by testing the height and length a player can jump.  McCoy had only a 29” inch vertical jump and a 8’11” long jump.  Those aren’t good numbers.

Despite those numbers, McCoy did look good during the workout.  He exploded out of his cuts.  Remember this guy looked good making people miss and making big runs in college.

It comes down to how much importance do you place in a workout as compared to what you see on tape.
