Eagles First Round Picks

Throw out all the rumors about the Eagles trading up or trading away picks.  It would be nice to see the Eagles be aggressive and explore trade options, but right now they should use the 21st and 28th pick in the first round.

If they were to stay at the 21 spot the Birds should take running back Knowshon Moreno from Georgia.  The reason they should take Moreno instead of Chris “Beanie” Wells is because Moreno fits into the scheme better.

Not only can Knowshon be a threat at the running back position, but he can also be a dangerous receiver out of the backfield.

This past season Moreno finished with 33 catches for 392 yards and added two touchdowns.  He also recorded 1,400 yards on 250=2 0carries and scored 16 times.

At last month’s combine Moreno sat out the 40-yard dash, but showed off his strength by putting up 225lbs 25 times, which was the same amount of reps as Beanie Wells even though Wells weighs about 15 pounds heavier than Moreno.

With the signing of Leonard Weaver there is no longer a need for a “big back.”  And since Brian Westbrook approaching 30 and the uncertainty of Lorenzo Booker, Knowshon Moreno has the best value at the 21st pick.

At the 28 spot the Eagles should take quarterback Josh Freeman.  I know the Eagles have other positions to address, such as tight end, but as of right now Kevin Kolb has not shown me enough to make me feel confident that the franchise is in good hands after McNabb is gone.

Even though it was only Kolb’s second year in the league that was no excuse for the poor play when he did get into games.  And if anyone does not remember McNabb took the Eagles to the playoffs in his second year.  But back to Freeman whose draft stock is on the rise and is considered to be a late first, early second round pick.

The Kansas State product finished this past season throwing for almost 3,000 yards and 20 touchdowns.  What is most important is that he only threw 8 interceptions out of his 382 pass attempts.  Freeman can also hurt opposing defenses with his legs. This season he rushed 107 times for 404 yards and 14 touchdowns.
