The Eagles are showing their cards. It seems that they have their coaches and scouts flying all over the country attending workouts for tight ends.
Not only were they present for the recent workout of Florida Gator Cornelius Ingram, they were also on the scene when South Carolina’s Jared Cook worked out.
Ingram, 6’4” 245 pounds, didn’t play this past season for the Gators because a ACL tear which he had in preseason workouts. He’s got good speed, 4.68 forty yard dash, and he’s very athletic.
He is considered to be more of a receiver than a blocker, but knowing the Eagles like I do, I know you’re not surprised. Andy Reid has got to be salivating at the athleticism of some of these tight ends.
The same is true of Cook, 6’5” 246, who is even faster than Ingram, 4.49 forty yard dash. He is a converted wide receiver, who would give the Eagles another receiving threat can flat out fly for a tight end.
Why is it that I think this guy can’t block? Here’s what he had to say in an interview.
"The hardest part from the transition was picking up the blocking on the big D-ends and linebackers. But as the starting tight end, I had to become a complete player."
Very few of the top tight ends are considered complete tight ends who can block. This makes getting Oklahoma State's Brandon Pettigrew that much more important.
If they don't get him, I'm concerned that the Birds could start another season without a tight end who can block.
