Anquan Boldin may be on the market but Braylon Edwards is definitely on the market. .Edwards fits the profile of players the Eagles go after better than Boldin and Tony Gonzalez.
He is a young stud receiver who hasn’t reached his prime.
Andy Reid has said he likes his receivers so the chances of them adding Edwards to that group, seems to be remote.
He has the combination of size and speed, 6’3” 218, of a true number one receiver. All you have to say is 16 touchdown catches in one season.
That was in 2007 when he put together a true superstar year with 80 catches, 1289 yards and 16 touchdowns. Last year was an off year, 55 catches, 873 and 3 touchdowns. He also led the league in drops.
You could probably get him at a DISCOUNT cost right now because of the poor season he had. I figure it wouldn’t cost much more than a first round pick.
Adding Edwards to DeSean Jackson and Kevin Curtis would make the Eagles group one of the best in the league. The Birds would put a lot of points on the board.
It would be the kind of aggressive move that a team focused on winning a Super Bowl Championship would make. I couldn’t even imagine the Eagles taking the field with that much talent at the wide receiver position.
You and I know it’s not going to happen.
Their wide receiver talent would be superior to what they had in 2004 when they went to the Super Bowl.
That year the Eagles resembled a team trying to go to the Super Bowl with an offense built around their passing game. The wide receivers they have right now is second to the 2004 group in terms of talent at the wide receiver position.
If the Eagles address their offensive tackle position in the first round of the draft, the chances of them making the move toward Edwards diminish.
I feel confident they’re going to address the tight end and running back positions early in the selection process, so if they do something at the tackle spot, it all but rules out Edwards.
