Ultimately It Will Be McNabb’s Fault

Do you hear the silence?  You and I know that the Birds are refusing to make a deal to acquire Browns wide receiver Braylon Edwards. The Eagles don't need a starting receiver over 5'10.

They’re doing it despite the fact that they could trade for Edwards by getting rid of a Reggie Brown, a receiver they don’t need or want; giving up a second round draft pick which wouldn’t be a big deal since they have two 1st rounders; and trading a fifth round draft pick which doesn’t matter since they have multiple fifth round picks.

Instead the Eagles will likely try to move up in the first round of the draft to get one of the top three offensive tackles.

Hopefully they’ll pick the right guy but this move rules out them having a starting receiver above 5’10”.  DeSean Jackson and Kevin Curtis are two speedy, quality receivers but both of them are Lilliputians.  There’s a reason they don’t get much done in the red zone.

Andy Reid will continue to believe that his ability to put the players in the proper position will allow this team to overcome their deficiencies and get into the end zone.  (Reid may be covering up the fact that the front office isn't willing to spend what it will take to improve the talent on the ballclub)

Rather than admit that players ultimately win championships and not coaches, Reid and the Eagles will refuse to add a difference maker to this ball club and get ready to finish close again with no cigar.

Don’t get me wrong, the Eagles will have a good team in this upcoming season but they won’t win a championship.  They just don’t have enough dominating players to get it done.

I think they will be in the playoffs again but they won’t dominate in the red zone and their defense will have a problem in a championship game late in the season because they rely on the blitz too much.

Most of the sports media in town will agree with me throughout the off season that the Eagles are lying to themselves about putting enough talent on this team to win a Super Bowl Championship.

Once the season starts they forget everything they said about the Eagles not doing enough in the off season, then they blame all the team’s shortcomings on Donovan McNabb.

You can’t complain all off season that the Eagles aren’t doing enough to acquire talent, then blame every shortcoming of the team has on McNabb during the season.

Do you ever get tired of seeing the same movie over and over?  I think I’ve seen this movie before.
