Like other teams around the league, the Eagles will be staring at one of those charts which are supposed to give a numerical value to every draft pick. They can't forget that the goal is to get talent to help this football team.
The Eagles must not become draft geeks. A draft geek just wants to make another deal to get additional picks because that stupid chart says two picks in the fourth and fifth round is worth more than one in the middle of the third round.
You can't get up into making deals just to make deals. Drafting a bunch of players late in the draft that aren't going to make the team isn't the goal. The goal is to get some players who can help this team now.
I could see the Eagles trading one of those first round picks if they believe the evaluation of this first round that there are only 20 to 22 players truly deserving of a first round grade. I say get the players who you know can help you. Don't overdo the trading down nonsense.
I can understand how analyzing and evaluating the draft can be beneficial but these players are drafted and playing as individuals and not as the 2009 draft class. The goal is to select the individuals who can help the football team.
Bringing the highest number of players into camp means nothing if they can't help the football team.
Having some pencil-neck geek rate your draft as the best in the league, means nothing. I think the Eagles put too much effort in winning the salary cap competition.
Putting the most talent on the field is all that matters. So what if you had to overpay a couple of players if that means winning a championship.
