Written by Keep #5-These are definitely tough times… and I’m not talking about the Philadelphia Eagles’ offseason.
I’m talking about the recessionary times that we all currently live in.
The economy is in shambles and people are being laid off left and right. If I were an NFL player, I would consider myself blessed in these hard times. After all, these players are a bit more insulated from losing their jobs than we are.
But yet some NFL players still don’t get it. Their earning potential is so much greater than the average American but some of them always seem to blow it. This really irks me.
One very recent example would be Donte Stallworth. Dante signed a 7-year $35 million contract with the Browns last year. This former Eagles receiver will be charged with manslaughter for hitting a bystander at 7:30 am in the morning with his Bentley.
This guy’s blood alcohol level was 1.26, well above Florida’s 0.8 limit. It was 7:30 in the morning! Wow!!! Stallworth is now potentially facing up to 15 years in prison and that $35 million contract is probably going down the drain.
That’s just ridiculous to me. This guy had the ability to change his families’ quality of living for generations to come and he throws it all away because he is “stuntin” in Miami.
Not to mention someone has lost their life and we all know there is no coming back from that.
I’ve been to Miami a few times. It’s a great place to visit but I think it’s vastly overrated. If you want to show that you’re “stuntin”, take trips overseas, go to San Tropez.
To me guys like Stallworth, Pacman, Vick, and Plaxico just don’t get it. I understand their upbringing may have been rough but that’s not an excuse. I couldn’t use that excuse.
It’s funny these guys have all the qualities and skills on the field, but they lack basic common sense off the field.
There is a saying that says “Money is a good thing but too much can kill you”. I guess in Stallworth’s case too much killed someone else.
GCOBB.com family I know this is unrelated to the Eagles but it was just something that caught my attention.
