The Gold Standard Returns

Another season that we got so very close, but again finished without a title.  No worries, as a Philadelphia sports' fan we have been down this road many times before.  This time it was at the college level and the team was Villanova.

Myself, I was there to witness Blaine Bishop and Tampa Bay in 2002.  I sat there for Koy Detmer's relief appearance against Carolina in 2003.  I shelled out the bucks for a trip to Jacksonville to watch McNabb vomit in 2004.  Sadly I was in Arizona this past season when the Eagles' defense wasn't.

As I am still a year shy of 30 my memories aren't as great as others, but I too remember the Flyers going winless against Detroit and the Sixers falling prey to the Kobe and Shaq mini-dynasty.

But thankfully all the pain ended last season when the Phillies FINALLY delivered the city a World Series Title.  We fans got to actually see and not only hear what "pedal to the metal" truly means.

How great was dressing up in red on Halloween and watching a Champion parade down Broad Street.  A memory that will last a lifetime with this Philly fan.

As we continue to move through another Eagles' off-season that continues to leave us wanting more we can take a football break to witness the city's true version of the Gold Standard.

Baseball season is again upon us.  And even though Eagles and football is this fan's true passion it's nice to be able to escape from usual disappointment and realistically expect another season of greatness from a Philadelphia team.
