Burress gets bonus, Larry doesn’t

Special Master (how great would it be to have that title?) Stephen Burbank ruled on Monday that Plaxico Burress can keep the $1 million the Giants owed him, but that the Chiefs don't have to guarantee Larry Johnson's $3.5 million bonus money over the next two years.

Burbank ruled that bonus money already earned cannot be withheld by the team.  Burress already earned that $1 million, so the Giants have to pay it regardless of whether he is a blithering idiot.  He'll need to be careful how he spends that money as he probably won't be seeing those size checks for quite some time.

On the other hand, Burbank said that Larry Johnson violated the terms of his contract and thus the Chiefs can cut the ex-Penn State RB and not owe him the guarantees that he was due to earn.  Johnson was suspended for one game last year for conduct detrimental to the team.  Some would argue that this is just one of many reasons why we don't spit drinks on women in clubs.

The Chiefs are expected to cut or trade the one-time-superstar-turned-overrated-malcontent, but not so fast.  Jamaal Charles and Kolby Smith would then be the team's best two backs and the Chiefs really don't need to add any "need areas" to their team.  That part they have covered.
