A league source tells Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports that he expects the Browns to ship WR Braylon Edwards to the Giants before this year's draft.
“The Giants are going to have to up the offer a bit, but [the Browns] are willing to move him,” the source said.
I'd love to know why the Eagles have no interest. Yes, the guy drops too many passes, but he still is an upgrade and would make DeSean Jackson that much better. I don't see a receiver on the Eagles roster that is capable of 16 TD's in a season. Love ya, DeSean, but it ain't happening.
Meanwhile, the Giants recognize the need to add a high-end wideout to replace Plaxico Burress. Then again, their WR's are pretty awful without Burress. I will say the Eagles WR's are definitely better right now. Still…
“The Giants are motivated, they’re trying to win right now,” the source said. “Edwards is a bigger guy that [quarterback] Eli [Manning] wants to throw to, like he had with Plaxico. The Giants know they can’t leave Eli with no great receivers. They saw what happened last year.”
The Eagles don't necessarily need another wide receiver, let me be clear. But they do need a red zone solution. If it's not Edwards are Boldin, then it better be a tight end of some sort. They can't go into 2009 with these red zone issues.
Meanwhile, what is going on in Cleveland? They have already moved Kellen Winslow, Jr, who can be a royal pain in the rear end sometimes. I think it's a safe bet that they won't have Donte Stallworth for a while. And now they are moving Edwards because they don't think he'll get along with Mangini? Something stinks there. I think I actually know what stinks and it's called the Browns. It doesn't seem like Mangini is making many friends in Cleveland and you can probably add Derek Anderson and Brady Quinn to the list of people that don't like him.
