Reid – This Is Jason Peters’ Day

Andy Reid and Jason Peters have just walked into the Nova Care center auditorium.  Reid began the session by saying that this is Jason's day and he doesn't want questions about anything else.

Peters says it's been a long road to get to where he's at.   He came into the league as a back up tight end and started out as a special teamer for his rookie year.

He said he never dreamed of playing left tackle as a college player at Arkansas.  He lined up next to Shawn Andrews about 90% of the time with Andrews at tackle and Peters at tight end.

Last year was difficult for Peters because he said the decision to hold out obviously hurt his season and the season of the team.

Reid gave Tra Thomas a lot of credit for the play that he gave the Birds for more than a decade.

"You know my feelings on Tra Thomas," Reid said of Thomas. "Tra was a phenomenal left tackle here. We had our 75th anniversary team and Tra was the left tackle. You're talking about the best left tackle in the team's history.

"But age does take place in this game and Tra played a lot of years here. We needed to replace Tra and we tried to seek out the best left tackle in football. That's how we went about it."

Reid who didn't think a Pro Bowl offensive tackle would be available so he was thrilled that Peters was out there to be had.

"Of course Tra Thomas is a great tackle," Peters said. "He left big shoes to fill and I'm ready to try to fill those shoes."

The only controversial point of the new conference occured when Peters was asked about giving up 11.5 sacks a year ago.

Peters says he had never heard people say that he had given up 11.5 sacks a year ago.  He said if he gives up a sack it's not going to because of lack of effort.

Reid said he watched all of the game tapes and says Peters is strong in both the run game and pass game.  He can dominate at that position. Andy says he didn't see him give up 11.5 sacks.  He doesn't know where those figures came from.

He said the Eagles offensive line is big, young and versatile because Stacy Andrews,Todd Herremans and Shawn Andrews are all able to play both the tackle and guard positions.

Reid said he feels very good about his offensive line at the moment.
