Must Get TE’s Who Can Block

I told you a couple of weeks back that the drafting of tight end Brandon Pettigrew was a myth. Notice you don't hear much in the way of draft analysts talking about the Eagles drafting the big tight  end.

Once the Eagles let it be known that Brent Celek was their starter, I knew drafting Pettigrew wasn’t’ going to happen.

They probably think more of Celek than I do.  Celek is a good pass receiver but he’s a mediocre blocker.

Despite the fact that they consider Celek a starter, the Birds know they need help at the position.  They reportedly offered a third round pick to the Chiefs for Tony Gonzalez.

I want to see the Eagles add not one but two tight ends who can block.  They can use two of those fifth round selections on them.  It makes no sense to me to have a Rolls Royce offensive line but Chevy Novas at the tight end position.

Veteran Matt Schobel will be in training camp battling for another year, but I want to see him replaced because he can’t block.

The reason the Eagles have so much difficulty getting first downs on third down and short is because of the horrible job done by their tight ends.  It’s the same reason they have so much trouble in the red zone.

Before the Peters trade I wanted to see them grab Brandon Pettigrew, the best tight end in the draft, because he’s such a beast when it comes to blocking.  I know we can’t get this stud tight end but could we get at least one tight end who is known for his blocking.

What sense does it make to draft Moreno and see him getting nailed by a linebacker or defensive end, who is living in the Eagles backfield because they don’t have a tight end to block him.
