Around The NFL – May 8, 2009

North Carolina head coach Butch Davis is comparing Giants rookie WR Hakeem Nicks to former Cowboys Michael Irvin.

I hope Davis is wrong because if he is right the Giants are going to have a monster of a football team.

Wide receiver Devin Thomas, who was drafted in the second round a year ago by the Washington Redskins, had a bad year in 2008 but he's said things will be different in 2009.

Brett Favre isn't coming back to play in the NFL with the Minnesota Vikings as of right now but that doesn't mean he won't change his mind in the near future.

It's been reported that Marvin Harrison is on the verge of retirement but his agent Tom Condon denied that report.

Word around the NFL is that the reason Harrison hasn't signed to a contract with an NFL team is because he doesn't want to be signed at the present moment.  His knee is recovering slowly and he doesn't want to have to participate in all of those off season workouts.

Former Eagles defensive end Jevon Kearse underwent arthroscopic surgery on his knee and will miss the Titans upcoming mini camp.   Kearse has been consistent in the last three years.  He has registered exactly 3.5 sacks in the past three seasons.

He's been consistently mediocre.
