DMac Should Keep His Mouth Shut

Donovan McNabb hasn't had anything to say since well before the draft and that's a good thing.

Regardless of what he says it's going to be turned into a controversy.

He's fair game when he runs his mouth and talks in circles, while trying to please everybody.

The media's job isn't to be his friend.  The media's job is to create something entertaining enough for people to read, listen to and watch.

McNabb should stop trying to say what everybody wants him to say.  That's what has him tying himself into knots in his news conferences because he trying to please everybody.

It's the main reason he should keep his mouth shut until training camp.  Talking less should be one of McNabb's goals this year.  He should shorten the time he talks and restrict it to football.

I was listening to some of my media colleagues last week at the Nova Care complex and they were talking about how Kevin Kolb handles the questions better than McNabb.

All I could do was laugh because as I've said before if McNabb had ever said anything that could be portrayed as if he wasn't rooting for one of his teammates, he would have been torched in the papers and on the radio the rest of his career.

After Kolb said he would be "frustrated" if McNabb got another contract, all the media in town said it wasn't a big deal.

I played with quite a few players who would have punched Kevin Kolb in the mouth if he had said the same thing about them getting another contract.

This is why McNabb should keep his mouth shut.  He should treat the news conferences more like Reid does. Be boring and stick to football.

The fact that the media in this town would give Kevin Kolb who has never contributed anything to the team, more of a cushion than a guy who has taken this team to a Super Bowl and five NFC Championship games, says it all.

If McNabb talks, he's going to be asked about his contract.  Maybe he should say that unlike his teammate Kevin Kolb, he hopes he does get another contract.

Seriously, he should make it clear that he doesn't want to talk about the contract, until it's in his best interest to talk about it.

Clearly the Eagles have communicated something to him and his agent, Fletcher Smith.  Maybe they're talking now.  Maybe they're going to wait until during the season to talk.

It's not going to help him to start getting into any public conversation with the Birds about his contract. He should talk to them directly.

He should put an end to answering all these "sensitve" , "girly", type questions that the media asks about how he feels about the city and the fans.   He shouldn't answer questions about his family and all kinds of other personal things.  Who cares?

The only thing that McNabb should be in pursuit of now is a Super Bowl ring and he should keep the conversations about things which will help him get there.

He should restrict questions to football and the team.  Answering questions about what Kevin Kolb is foolish.  He should have a talk with Kolb and tell him that his (McNabb's) contract is none of his business.

Then he should forgive him for breaking that rule of the locker room.  They should both put it behind them and move on.

Five should treat this like business and leave his feelings at home.

McNabb should be himself and forget about the fans and the media.  Winning a Super Bowl is all that will straighten things out.

Again he should keep his answers short and boring and focus on winning the big one because that's the reason he's here.
