BWest To Have Surgery On Friday

The Philadelphia Eagles have just announced that Brian Westbrook will be having surgery on his ankle on Friday in Baltimore, Maryland.

The surgery will be performed by Dr. Mark Meyerson.  He was the doctor who operated on Terrell Owens before the Super Bowl. Of course we all remember the near miraculous recovery Owens made to play in the game.

Meyerson will be cleaning out Westbrook's ankle or more specifically removing bone spurs from his right ankle.

It was reported that Westbrook had a high ankle sprain but clearly it seems that he has built up scar tissue in it from all of the times, he has been playing on it when it was injured the last few years.

ESPN.com reported that Westbrook's agent, Todd France, was the first to speak about the surgery.

He told them that a timetable hadn't been set yet for Westbrook's return.

"We talked about it when he was at the doctor's office and went through the options and decided it was better to clean it up," France told ESPN.com. "The ankle has been bothering him since last year."

The big question that will be coming into place is how quickly will he recover from this surgery.

Dr. Arhtur Bartolozzi who operated me during my career said he expected the recovery time is expected to be 6 to 8 weeks, which would put Westbrook's return near the time the Birds go to training camp.

The report by Comcast Sportsnet that he will be out until the regular season may not be true but we'll have to wait and see.

The truth of the matter is that we won't know when he's going to be back until he's out there running with the football in a game that counts.  We know that Westbrook has been getting nicked up and missing game for the last three or four years.

So all the questions reman.

Is it true that he will be back by the time the season starts?

How healthy will he be when he returns?

Are his days as a feature back over?

Why didn't they take care of his ankle when they were performing surgery on his knee earlier this off season?
