News that Donovan McNabb and the Eagles are renegotiating the numbers for this year and next means that there's a good chance McNabb will be the Eagles QB in the future as well.
Derrick Gunn of Comcast Sportsnet reported that the Eagles and McNabb are taking a break from negotiating a long-term extension to focus on the next two years of his deal.
Right now at $10 million a year, McNabb is underpaid. Afterall, former backup quarterback Matt Cassell will make $15 million dollars this year.
What it means is that the Eagles are leaning towards giving McNabb an extension, which would keep Kevin Kolb on the bench for much longer.
It can't be good news for Kolb, but it's a reasonable move by the Birds. McNabb will get some guarantees and a big boost to his salary over the next two years.
Let me tell you that both McNabb and Kolb can see that whichever quarterback spends the next four or five years for the Eagles is going to be throwing to some seriously dangerous weapons.
Looking at the speed on display yesterday at the OTA, getting an extension from the Eagles could mean a trip to Canton for McNabb. Chances are the Eagles will be putting up big numbers in terms of passing yardage.
If he spends the next four or five years throwing to DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin, Kevin Curtis and company, McNabb will push up his numbers to a point where he can't help but make it into the Hall of Fame.
That's not even taking inton account that each year he will have a legitimate shot at winning the big one.
