Other than the Brian Westbrook and Sheldon Brown absences, the first week of the Eagles camp has been focused on football and getting better.
Yes you have the report that Donovan McNabb's agent, Fletcher Smith is talking to the Eagles about changes to the remaining two years of his contract but it was diffused because McNabb has responded to it.
McNabb has been loose, sharp and confident, while working on his game.
The wide receiver speed the Birds have on the field now, fits him to a tee, because with his strong arm his best throws are the lazers downfield to DeSean Jackson, Kevin Curtis and Jeremy Maclin.
He hasn’t been wasting his energy and attention in the Eagles auditorium trying to field and dodge questions, that are designed to entangle him in another nonsensical, non-story controversy.
Bob Brookover of Philly.com reported that McNabb said “Damned if I do and Damned if I don’t” to him after numerous attempts to get him to talk.
It seems that McNabb finally understands that the less he says the better. Talking a lot doesn't help himself or his football team.
He has tried to say the right thing for over ten years, but he’s finally realized that he can’t say the right thing. That’s the secret.
Regardless of what he says, anybody who is looking for a controversy, or doesn’t like him as a person or as a quarterback will come back and talk about the fact that they haven’t won a championship.
They can always come back to that as a way of discrediting McNabb, so he can’t say the right thing until he wins a championship.
Truth of the matter is that McNabb will be criticized even if he were to lead the Eagles to a Super Bowl championship.
Critics can talk about the way he holds his head and the way he smiles, as a way of saying he can’t lead this team to a Super Bowl championship.
Even though he has said he didn’t pay attention to the criticism, the truth is that he has paid too much attention to it.
Now with him keeping his mouth shut, he doesn’t have to bother trying to find out everybody’s reaction to something he has said.
