I think the Eagles need an intervention right now. They need to go out and sign a veteran running back or two who can come in right now and learn the system.
Brian Westbrook will likely come back this season to play and play well, but there is no guarantee of that happening. For all we know, Westbrook may have already seen his last day as a top line running back.
Smallish, speedy running backs don't fade out gradually because they rely so much on their quickness and speed. Westbrook isn't the same back without his quickness, speed and ability to change direction.
I've said it a number of times that we didn't have the real Brian Westbrook in the NFC Championship game. We had zero running game, nothing at all.
Correll Buckhalter should have played in that game and he should still be here now.
I like what I see of LeSean McCoy but he's a rookie and at times I see his head spinning from the complexity of the offense that he's trying to learn.
We can't count on him this year. If this were next year I would feel differently.
Reid is getting pumped up again about Lorenzo "The Flea" Booker, but I can't see him ever picking up a blitzing linebacker or breaking a tackle. He is too small to be anything but a scat back.
There's no way they can rely on him to do the job.
The Eagles don't need one veteran running back, they need two veteran running backs, because they don't have a back on the roster that we can be totally sure will be ready to do the job..
Reid and his staff are making the same mistake they made a two years ago when the Birds started the season wthout a punt returner. It kept them out of the playoffs.
Last year they played the season without a real fullback. I think had they been able to convert a few first downs, they may have found a way into the Super Bowl.
I'm concerned that right now they may find themselves playing this season without a running back.
I thnk they should get one veteran running back now then wait and see how Westbrook heals, how McCoy develops and I don't even want to mention Booker.
