If you haven't heard by now, Asante Samuel was absent from voluntary activities today.
I think we should all blow it out of proportion and create a bunch of rumors about why he isn't there. I think I actually have a good reason to explain why he didn't show up today.
He didn't have to.
It's voluntary. As in: I don't need to be here.
What I don't get is that a team spokesman told Bob Brookover of the Inquirer that Andy Reid was disappointed. Really? I think Asante knows what he's doing and his absence allows other players, like Jack Ikegwuonu, to get more reps. I personally don't want the $60 million man out there running around risking injury if he doesn't have to.
I saw a couple people opine that he could be upset with his contract, but I'm not even sure how that is remotely a possibility. We'll find out in the next day or so.
But I guess my big question is why not just call Reid and say "dude, I think I'm going to take Monday off for [insert whatever reason you want.]" Just let him know. It seems a lot of these players who miss voluntary practices don't tell the coach and he's in the dark when asked about it by reporters. Maybe he did tell him and Andy's still disappointed, who knows?
