The Eagles need Victor Abiamiri to stay healthy and grow into the same type of monster that his Notre Dame buddy, Justin Tuck has become for the Giants
The Eagles will have a dominant defensive line if Abiamiri can simply approach Tuck's level of play.
If I could acquire one defensive lineman in the entire league, Tuck would be one of my top choices. He's dominant against both the run and passing game. Plus he can play defensive tackle and end.
Abiamiri has the potential to be dominant. Remember he was regarded as being a better pro prospect than Tuck.
They need him to be an anchor on the left side of the defense. He's the biggest and strongest of the team's defensive ends, so he should make his presence felt early and often.
The next step is his pass rush. This young defensive end needs to get playing time so that he can perfect his pass rush moves.
You know with his power and strength he'll be an effective bull rush move. A bull rush is where the pass rushers tries to get up under the blocker and run him back into the quarterback.
He's got to polish his speed moves around the corner. A speed rush move occurs when a pass rusher fakes the bull rush, then tries to slide outside around the blocker by slapping his hands down or grabbing his outside shoulder and following with an arm over or an arm under move.
The ability to go with a power or speed move keeps the offensive linemen guessing. It's also important that the pass rusher makes both move look the same until the last instant.
It's the way a good pitcher like Cole Hamels makes his fastball and changeup look the same until it's too late for the hitter.
If Abiamiri can be a dominant pass rusher, then it's going to make teams decide whether they're going to focus on him or Trent Cole on the other side.
It will also allow the Eagles to not have to rely on the blitz so much. They would confident they could get to the quarterback by just sending their front four after him.
Juqua Parker will share time with Abiamiri which will keep both of them fresh throughout the season. The last couple of years, Parker has worn down as the season has gone on and that has hurt the Birds late in the season.
