McNabb & Eagles Reach Deal

The Eagles and Donovan McNabb have reached an agreement on the last two years of his contract.  He will receive an increase in salary of $5.3 million and a guarantee on much of the money.

ESPN's Michael Smith reported the 2-year deal is worth $24.5 million, with another $1 million in incentives.  McNabb was due to make $9.2 million in this year and $10 million the next.

McNabb said he wanted to get an extension and in a certain way he has gotten that.

Eagles head coach offered this comments upon completion of the deal.  "The Philadelphia Eagles organization and the entire city of Philadelphia are fortunate to have a quarterback the caliber of Donovan McNabb. He has proven himself to be a talented player on the field, a caring member of the Philadelphia community and a winner."

Eagles president Joe Banner had this to say about the contract signing.  "We are thrilled that this all worked out," Eagles president Joe Banner said in a statement. "He is a great football player, a great person and someone who gives back to the community. We are lucky to have him in Philadelphia."

Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie, “Donovan has played a large part of this team’s success over the last 10 years.  He has been a professional in every sense of the word.”

It's been reported that now McNabb and the Eagles will attempt to workout an extension after the year 2010, but I think that will take some time.

There's lot uncertainty about what's going to happen with the NFL's collective bargain agreement after the 2010 season.

Reid and McNabb are scheduled to meet with the media tommorow at 10am.
