The biggest mistake the Eagles have made under Andy Reid of letting a player leave was letting defensive end Derrick Burgess head west and sign a contract with the Oakland Raiders.
I'm saying this was their biggest mistake in regards to letting one of their players leave because looking back now, Burgess could have been the one guy to help them win a Super Bowl championship.
Burgess could have helped them get pressure on the quarterback without blitzing.
He has shown that he can get to the quarterback consistently if he's left one on one. I believe that's what you must have in order to dominate in a championship game.
First of all the guy had two sacks against Michael Vick and the Atlanta Falcons in the one NFC Championship game that this Eagles team has won.
He followed that up by getting to Tom Brady in the Super Bowl.
Burgess made the Pro Bowl the next year, by registering 16 sacks in his first year with the Raiders.
He went to the Pro Bowl again the year after that.
You could see a combination of Burgess and Trent Cole coming off the corner for the Birds being a rather intimidating line up.
The Eagles wouldn't have to bltiz nearly as much and thereby be able to keep seven defenders in coverage yet still get pressure on the quarterback.
Looking back I do understand why the Eagles got rid of him because he was hurt the entire time he was here until that NFC Championship game and the Super Bowl.
We hung onto Jevon Kearse rather than Burgess and it was a mistake.
