Former Redskins, Rams, Chiefs and Dolphins quarterback Trent Green says he thinks 10 NFL quarterbacks will throw for over 400 yards and he thinks Donovan McNabb could be one of them.
The quarterbacks Green is sure will make the 4000-yard mark are Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, Phillip Rivers, Kurt Warner and Aaron Rodgers.
McNabb is on the list of quarterbacks who he thinks may get to that figure. Others on that list are Jay Cutler, Matt Cassel, Carson Palmer, Matt Schaub, Tony Romo and Matt Hasselbeck.
McNabb has never thrown for over 4000 yards in a season. He came very close a year ago, completing about 60% of his passes while throwing for 3916 yards with 23 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
In 2004 he would have made it easily but he sat out most of the last three games of the season. In 2004, he threw for 3875 yards in about 13 games.
This should be his best year with regard to yardage because he's got the fastest and deepest wide receiver group that he's ever had.
If Brian Westbrook returns healthy, this will be the most talented group of offensive weapons that McNabb has ever played with during his time with the Eagles.
Each position will have a player there that can make plays. This wide receiver group is without a doubt the deepest and most talented that the Birds have ever had.
The deep speed of DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin will have McNabb eating up big chunks of yardage at a time. This was the case in 2004 and that was without a doubt the biggest year of McNabb's career.
Jackson, Maclin, Kevin Curtis, Jason Avant, Hank Baskett and Reggie Brown have varying strengths and are all capable receivers. Unfortunately, chances are that one of them won't be here after training camp.
I will repeat a bold prediction which I made earlier this off season.
I think McNabb will go to the Hall Of Fame if he plays well enough for the Eagles to give him a contract extension past the next two years.
I think he will run up big numbers with Andy Reid calling the plays and McNabb getting the chance to throw to these talented and speedy receivers. I'm talking about him playing here another four or five years.
I believe those numbers will be so big that they will make him a can't miss Hall of Famer.
Of course winning a Super Bowl would do it also but Dan Fouts and Warren Moon are in the Hall because of their numbers. Neither ever made it to a Super Bowl, but they made it to the Hall.
