Drew Rosenhaus said via his Twitter feed that the Eagles have agreed to a deal with second-round pick LeSean McCoy. An Eagles source confirmed this with the Daily News' Eagletarian blog.
It's a four-year deal and it makes McCoy the first second-round pick to sign in the NFL this year.
As the Eagletarian notes, once McCoy is signed they will have all their draft picks signed except for first-round pick Jeremy Maclin.
On PhiladelphiaEagles.com Eagles general manager Tom Heckert had this to say about the signing, "I think he can do the same types of things that Brian can do. We think he's an all-around player, and we think he can step right in and help us out. He's a great receiver out of the backfield."
"You can spread him out and he can also run the ball in between the tackles. It's not fair to him to say he's just a change of pace guy, that he's not a full-time player. He's proven that he can be durable enough to carry the football in major competition."
Here's the official release on the McCoy signing……..The Philadelphia Eagles today announced they have agreed to terms with RB LeSean McCoy on a four year contract. McCoy was the club’s 2nd round draft choice in 2009. The Eagles have now come to terms with seven of the eight members of their 2009 draft class.
A shifty running back with a knack for finding the end zone, McCoy amassed 3,365 total yards from scrimmage and 36 total touchdowns during a productive two-year career at Pittsburgh. McCoy registered 2,816 rushing yards and 35 touchdowns on 584 carries (4.8 yards per carry), while catching 65 passes for 549 yards and one score.
A second-team All-America selection in 2008, McCoy become just the third player in school history to post multiple 1,000-yard rushing campaigns, joining Tony Dorsett and Curvin Richards. McCoy also broke an NCAA record for most touchdowns by a player in their freshman and sophomore seasons, topping the old mark of 34 scores by WR Larry Fitzgerald (2002-03), also a product of Pittsburgh.
McCoy enjoyed a storied career at Bishop McDevitt High School in Harrisburg, PA, where he became one of the most prolific rushers in Pennsylvania high school history. He twice earned first-team, all-state honors from the Associated Press and was selected state player of the year as a junior.
