If you didn't have enough examples of why I think quarterbacks are over-hyped, here's a couple more. Why should a guy who has never won a playoff game be treated like a Superstar?
On Tuesday night for no apparent reason known to me, Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo was down on the turf of Yankee Stadium in New York throwing footballs and baseballs with Yankee star shortstop Derek Jeter.
He and Jeter took some time to play toss with both an NFL football and a MLB baseball. They were taking pictures like one of them is running for political office.
You would figure that the Yankees who haven't had much success in the playoffs in recent memory, wouldn't want a guy, who is a walking and talking playoff disaster, to be hanging around the clubhouse.
Yet and still Romo was in the Bronx, checking out the pinstripes.
I guest he's turning into America's guest?
Romo hasn't ever even led his Dallas Cowboys team to one single playoff victory. Not one, yet he's treated like a legitimate star. This is what I call the quarterback treatment.
This is similar to Peyton Manning and Eli Manning being given the Super Bowl MVP trophies despite the fact that some of their teammates had more to do with the victories than they did.
Today Romo, who is a scratch golfer and tried to qualify for the pro tour, is playing golf with the world's greatest golfer Tiger Woods. Yes playing golf with Tiger Woods and he brought his girlfriend along to sing the national anthem.
Romo and Woods are playing in the Pro-am at the AT&T National at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md. Romo heard some friendly boos from some of the Washington Redskins fans who were following the quarterback and Woods around the course.
Romo hit from the pro tees right along with Woods but he struggled throughout the round. Word is that the Dallas Cowboy's quarterback was erratic with his driver and spent most of his day in the bunker.
Romo's girlfriend Jessica Simpson sang the National Anthem this morning before the tournament began.
