It seems like the Jimmy Rollins' MVP year is coming back to haunt him. Rollins isn't a true 30 home run a year guy, but he's trying to pull the ball too much.
Right now, Jimmy is 0 for 27 and is batting only hitting .205. I think it's because he's trying to be somebody who he's not.
With his speed he should be hitting the ball the other way and on the ground a lot more than he does. He's always trying to pull the ball and hit it in the air rather than going with the pitch.
Despite the 30 home run year, Jimmy Rollins is not a power hitter, but somebody has convinced him that he is.
In addition, if Jimmy is going to be the lead off man, he's going to have to start hitting like a lead off man. That means taking some pitches and looking for more walks.
It should be no problems for him to score more than 100 runs each year because he's fast and he's got plenty of power coming up behind him. There are lead off men in the league who would give anything to have Chase Utley and Ryan Howard hitting behind him.
If I were Charlie Manuel I would sit Jimmy down and tell him he must start getting more walks, hitting the ball other way or he's not going to be the lead off man.
This team should be scoring more consistently, but there are too many times when Jimmy comes up, swings at the first pitch and flies out to left or left center.
He just doesn't have enough power to be hitting the ball in the air as much as he does. Jimmy hits the ball near the warning track but they don't go out, even in home hitter's park like Citizen's Bank Park.
He continues to be a great shortstop but his hitting mentality is all wrong. He's not a home run guy.
He should say it to himself again and again, I am not a home run hitter. I am not a home run hitter.
I am a line drive hitter. I am a line drive hitter.
Jimmy doesn't have the true power to consistently hit a lot of home runs.
This is starting to get old and it's not that complicated.
