DeSean Jackson could have a much better year in 2009 without having demonstrably better numbers. Last year he alone was McNabb's consistent target but this year will likely be different.
McNabb will have more targets this time around and chances are that will mean spreading out the catches.
I expect defenses to attempt to take away Jackson by double-teaming him. McNabb will continue to look his way, but normally the Birds attack the coverages, so I expect them to get the ball to the receivers who are facing single coverage.
Remeber that the other starting wide receiver in the offense, Kevin Curtis missed seven games a year ago. Curtis will probably begin the season as the starter. He underwent off-season surgery but he hopes to be healthy thorughout the entire season this time around.
Last year, speedy rookie Jeremy Maclin was still in college and starring for the Missouri Tigers. He made tremendous progress during the two off-season camps, so I think Andy Reid and Marty Mornhinweg will find ways to get him the ball.
The Birds got very little out of the tight end position because the starter there, L.J. Smith was hampered by a groin strain and never got going. Second year tight end Brent Celek was just cutting his teeth.
This year Celek is expected to make a huge jump in productivity and develop into a big-time weapon. Backing him up is a rookie tight end, Cornelius Ingram with tremendous potential. Bottom line, the Birds will get much more productivity from the tight end position.
