Leave it up to Chad Ocho Cinco (formerly Chad Johnson) to take things too far. That's what happening with his use of the social networking site Twitter.
ProFootballTalk.com reports, "You know, it's funny — I like it," Ochocinco recently told KGOW in Houston. "I like it because it gives me the opportunity to reach out to thousands of people at one time. It gives me a chance to get my story across when something goes wrong . . . It's big for me and I'm taking it a step further.
"I have my own application coming out where people will be able to interact and follow me. You know more than through just the keyboard and reading my messages — you'll actually be able to follow me and when the season starts, it's going to get even worse. I'm going to really make it fun. I'm using Twitter during games, during halftime, after the games. I'm going to be taking it to the next level."
You know NFL Commissioner Roger Goddell is going to shut him down before he attempts to do that during a game. Afterwards the game ends, that will be a different story.
The NFL has a rule that players must talk to the media following a game or run the risk of being fined. I foresee some fines because there are quite a few players who don't feel they get a fair shake, so you can expect them to go around the media and Tweet to the fans directly.
Much of what Ocho Cinco does I find to be funny and harmless, but this would be over the line. You can't have players sending out messages to their fans during an NFL game. They also shouldn't be allowed to do it at halftime either because that would be opening a door to potential problems.
As for Ocho Cinco, this young man is starved for attention.
As for the big picture, players are going to be able to side step the media and go directly to the fans. The established mainstream media won't like it, but this is reality the new day of media.
