Should Phils Go After Halladay?

Phils GM Ruben Armaro Jr. and the Phils have a big question to anwer.  How much young talent and how many good players would you part with in order to acquire the services of Roy Halladay?

Clearly he's available and the Phils have a huge need in the area of starting pitching.

Jim Salisbury of Philly.com says the Phils need to throw their hat in the ring in an attempt to acquire one of the best pitchers in baseball.

According to Salisbury, current Phils backup Matt Stairs who played with him, believes that it's a no brainer because this guy is that good.

"He's the best pitcher in the American League, probably the best pitcher in the majors," Stairs said. "He'd give us another horse. We'd be a lot more dangerous. He'd give us two No. 1 guys with [Cole] Hamels.

"Roy is like a Chase Utley. He's intense. He gets to the park early. He works his ass off. He watches games and studies hitters. Jamie Moyer prepares for starts well. It would be a battle to see who prepares better.

Others teams are sure to get in the chase so that will drive up the costs, but he might the make the Phils a threat to win the World Series every year for the foreseeable future.

He is a beast.  So far this season, he's 10-2 with an ERA of 2.79 after 16 starts.  Last year he won 20 games.

He does make big money, which means $14.25 million for this year and $15.75 next year.

Another hurdle for the Blue Jays in trading him is his "No Trade Clause".

That could help the Phillies because Halladay may refuse to go to a team that's not a contender.

We will know in due time what the Phils are going to do, but what would you do.  Let us know.
