Redskins head coach Jim Zorn has had trouble winning over the confidence of his veteran players, namely Clinton Portis, so it seems he has decided to try to kiss up to them.
Zorn has decided to let the veteran players go home at night during training camp. Normally in these preseason workouts, players sleep in dormitories at the locations of their training camps.
Spefically, Redskins players who have at least four years of NFL playing experience will be allowed to go sleep in their own beds each night once the team finishes their nightly position meetings.
It’s not going to make or break them, but I personally think this is a mistake because there’s some important bonding that takes place in training camp when players live together and go through some discomfort together.
I think focusing on football is an even bigger factor.
It’s not an easy task to get the players to focus on football alone and block out all of the everyday distractions, even if they are sleeping in the training camp dorms, but it will surely be impossible if they’re allowed to go home every night.
Rarely does appeasing the players make your football team better.
