Lately on NFL Network's anchor show, Total Access, they have been doing a segment called “best in the biz” where Warren Sapp and other former NFL greats pick their top five players at a particular position.
On Friday Sapp picked his top five quarterbacks and rated McNabb fourth, ahead of Bears QB Jay Cutler and behind Drew Brees, Peyton Manning and Tom Brady respectively.
Sapp knows a thing or two about the quarterback position because he was very good at sacking them. I think he was right in placing McNabb that high and ahead of other top quarterbacks, such as Phillip Rivers and Super Bowl Champ Ben Roethlisberger?
In my opinion even though Donovan may not have the ring like Big Ben or the highest QB rating last season as Rivers did, he still is deserving of the being considered one the games best.
The reason for this is simple. Aside from putting up numbers, which Donovan has done quite well in his career, the one main element which in my opinion ranks him so high is his value to the team. He is the main reason why the Eagles are consistently considered to be contending for the title.
He has been able to take this franchise to new heights despite having limited offensive playmakers and constant criticism.
Now that he has the pieces around him many believe this is the year the Birds can win it. Regardless of whether you like him or not, there is no denying that as five goes, so goes this team.
For that reason it is perfectly fair to put him in the category of the league's elite quarterbacks.
