It's not that complicated with Jamie Moyer. If the umpire is giving him the corners and a little bit more, he's tough to hit. If the umpire is squeezing him and not giving him the corners, he's like hitting batting practice.
Last night he was getting the corners and he was in his groove. The old man made it look easy last night with seven scoreless innings while allowing only one hit.
After the game the Marlins were crying. Here's what National League All-Star shortstop Hanley Ramirez had to say.
"He got a lot of calls, so there's nothing you can do about it," said Ramirez. "It's tough when you get so many calls like that. You can't concentrate when you're hitting."
The Marlins have a young team which likes to go up there and try to kill the ball. Moyer uses their aggressiveness against them.
The 46 year old owns the Marlins. He has won all eight starts he has had against them at the Miami field. His ERA against them in those games is only 1.38.
Finally a comment was made by the aptly named Marlins second baseman, Dan Uggla, "He knows how to pitch," Uggla said. ". . . For some reason, he has our number."
