They Shouldn’t Rush Westbrook Back

Rick Burkholder and the Eagles training staff had better do a great job of pushing, prodding and working with Brian Westbrook this off season.  Remember this guy has been off his feet for a knee surgery then an ankle surgery.

I see this as being very problematic because it will be very hard for Brian to stress and push his entire body and have it ready for the season while focusing on making sure his knee and ankle are ready to go.

Many times players who are inactive for awhile, wind up injuring another part of their body after spending a lot of time rehabilitating an injured knee or ankle.  They sprain their back or groin after focusing on the knee and ankle.

The entire body of running backs are stressed because they get hit by more players than anybody else on the football field.

I would like to see the Eagles get Warrick Dunn or another veteran running back in here and bring Westbrook back slowly.   I think getting one of these guys to shoulder the work load initially makes sense.

They must use Westbrook sparingly early with thoughts of keeping him healthy for the playoffs.

The temptation to overuse him will be great.  All it takes is BWest making one of those game-breaking plays and Andy Reid will be tempted to overuse him.

Everybody will be saying give the ball to Westbrook, but that might be the best decision.

If they put him in the game on a full-time basis immediately when he comes back, that's taking a big chance.  The dude hasn't done anything full speed the entire off season, so rushing him to full-time doesn't make sense.

I'd like to see them use him at 50% to 75% for the entire year.

They don't want to go in the playoffs with a banged up Westbrook.  That should be one of the top goals of the regular season.

Make the playoffs and enter them with a healthy Brian Westbrook.

Think about how many points the Eagles would have scored in the Arizona game if Westbrook had done anything.

I’m commenting to let you be aware of of the beneficial discovery my child encountered browsing the blog. She came to understand a lot of details, including how it is like to have a great coaching character to get certain people completely comprehend a variety of complex issues. You actually did more than her desires. I appreciate you for coming up with such essential, dependable, edifying and cool guidance on that topic to Ethel.
