What's going on with Jeremy Maclin? It's a day away from the rookie reporting date and Maclin hasn't been signed. This kid needs to be in camp from day one.
It seems like the Eagles and Maclin's representive Jim Steiner have been playing chicken. Neither wanted to make the first move, so here were are with no deal.
Both sides lose if he's not in training camp from the start. The Eagles won't have the guy in camp who could help take their offense to the next level.
He won't be in there learning the complicated west coast offense which is much different from the spread offense which he played in at Missouri. He won't be in there getting used to the size, speed and power of other NFL ball players.
The youngster will be falling behind, missing valuable reps and have the tough job of trying to catch up once he does get to camp.
Maclin loses for all of the same reasons. I'm sure he wants to make his incentives and impress the Eagles, so much that in a year or two, Joe Banner comes to him and starts talking multi-million dollar extension.
Not being in camp will push that time off further in the future.
The Eagles have had a reputation of getting their players in camp on time. They need to continue that practice.
He'll be the last Birds rookie to sign, so the fact is that they only have a certain alotment of money to give him any way.
There's not much room for negotiations. Get the deal done and get him signed.
