Notes From The Eagles Practices 7/27/09

Although Andy Reid says he won't treat Sean McDermott and his defense any different than Jim Johnson, Reid spends more time on the defense side of the field now as compared to the past with J.J.  McDermott must earn his stripes.

I can tell that Sean McDermott is one of those guys who believes in hard work and turning it loose.  It wasn't a coincidence that he said Jim Johnson's number one piece of advice for him was "blitz and blitz again"

We're going to see him coming after the quarterback just like his mentor.  I hope those defensive backs are ready to prevent the big play.

The Birds receivers worked a lot on specific routes and were able to get in detailed work on them.  I couldn't help but think about how much rookie Jeremy Maclin is missing by not being here.

Donovan McNabb said it wasn't a big deal but I beg to differ.  Maclin needs to be here learning and this could set him back.  Thankfully he wasn't going to be the main man any way but they need him to contribute if their passing attack is going to advance to the next level.

This is still classroom football.  There's an emphasis on teaching.  After nearly every play, the coaches are talking and explaining things to the young players who are out here at camp.

They don't have enough guys to run team drills so they're able to focus on detail.

I noticed that Kevin Curtis isn't striding out and totalling opening up all the way.  I know I've mentioned it before but I think this groin could be a problem throughout the season.

Of the work the Birds did in the seven-on-seven passing drill, much of it was done in the red zone where they utilized Cornelius Ingram as a target.    Expect the Eagles to focus on the red zone throughout the camp.
