The Eagles quickly got a bevy of names on the “Physically Unable to Perform” or PUP list. Andy Reid told us on Thursday that they’ve put six players on that list
Brian Westbrook, Victor Abiamiri, Jason Peters, Asante Samuel, Shawn Andrews and Trevor Laws were placed on the list.
This list of kind of a cover you butt list for teams in case a guy shows up to camp with a serious injury that they knew nothing about.
Reid was eager to put those players on the list on Thursday because you have to be placed in the group before the first full-squad workout of training camp.
If a player’s injury takes longer than expected, then they can be placed on the reserve PUP list at the start of the regular season and that really gives the team an extra roster spot.
If you’re on the reserve PUP list, you don’t count against the opening day 53-man roster.
The Eagles don’t expect any of these guys to be on this list when the season gets here but this is a way of protecting themselves in case they are.
One drawback to being placed on the reserve PUP list is the fact that it makes you ineligible to play for the first six weeks of the regular season.
It’s nothing to get too worked up about.
