Today's practice was a like a lesson in a classroom for Eagles rookie running back LeSean McCoy. Briain Westbrook stood for a while then took a knee on the sideline and watched quietly.
McCoy saw first hand that there are certain things you can do in college that you can't do in the Pro's. First of all you can't take an inside play outisde, when one of the defenders gets deep penetration into the backfield.
Most of the time if something goes wrong with either the handoff or inside penetration, get what you can immediately and don't even think about getting outside.
He did a good job overall but he can't afford to go for the big run and lose yardage. With his quickness and leg strength, he's got to be one of those get what's there runners.
McCoy wasn't tested on his blitz pickup. That's going to be the area which might keep him off the field. He's picking up the routes and we all know he runs well enough to play immediately.
With the dredlocks coming out of his helmet backup running back Eldra Buckley had a big day running the football. He a long run of over 40 yards but I don't think he fits the Eagles because he can't catch a cold. When they throw him the ball, he either beats the ball up or has the ball beat him up.
Lorenzo Booker was smiling after practice because he made some good runs. I wouldn't get worked up by it though because he tries to take everything outside. Booker wouldn't run back inside if they placed a pot of gold in there.
When he gets hit, he flops all over the place. I don't see in him a running back who can pick up the blitz and run with any authority.
He had a good day running the ball but he still hasn't won me over.
