The Change At Fullback Is A Major Improvement

The most glaring change on the Eagles offense this year is at the fullback position with Leonard Weaver taking over for Danny Klecko.  This isn't a slight at Klecko because I thought he did a tremendous job considering the circumstances.

But are you kidding me?  Weaver is an athlete at the fullback position.

He's a big skilled athlete who will shock defenders if they don't pay attention to him.  I guarantee you he's going to hurt some teams with big runs and big catches.

Think about it if you were a defensive coordinator.  You're worried first of all about DeSean Jackson getting deep for a quick score so you make sure you tell your corners and safeties how lethal this guy can be.

Next up you talk about Kevin Curtis and hopefully Jeremy Maclin.  You go through all the ways Brian Westbrook can hurt you.  You've got the linebackers and a safety keeping an eye on him.

You're breaking down the tight ends to these guys and making sure somebody is clamping down on Brent Celek and going up and fighting Cornelius Ingram for the ball.

You've exhausted all of the your defenses and defenders so you have ignore Weaver because you've got to give these other weapons significant attention.

I don't think you can ignore Weaver and get away with it.

He catches the ball very well and there's nothing that gets Andy Reid going more than a running back who can catch the ball out of the backfield.  Weaver catches the ball better than a lot of halfbacks.

I think as a year goes on you're going to see Marty Mornhinweg and Reid finding more ways to get Weaver the ball. Screens, draws, seams routes down the middle and wheel routes down the sideline.

I hope they it does take too long for that because he could wind up being that extra ingredient that pushes them over the top.
