He's finally signed. Eagles number one draft pick Jeremy Maclin has been signed to a five year deal. Now he can get in here and start contributing to an offense that may have to carry more of the load for the Eagles this year.
Maclin will join a formidable group of offensive weapons for the Birds and try to create a place for himself on this offense.
He could have reported the Sunday before last if he had been signed. The youngster will be jumping into the middle of a wide receiver group that has been executing the offense for a few days.
Now he has to catch up in a hurry. He will be competing for playing time and pass catches but he won't be part of the wide receiver battle that is taking place between Reggie Brown, Hank Baskett and Brandon Gibson
Maclin will be a part of this football team but nobody knows how much the Birds will utilize him. He's got game-breaking speed, plus can make people miss in the open field.
I could see the Birds handing the ball to him on reverses and throwing it to him on quick screens, shallow crossing routes and go routes.
From an overall perspective, I could see Andy Reid and his staff demand more out of the offense this year, since they have more weapons than they have ever had.
The defense on the other hand has lost a possible Hall of Fame safety, a legendary defensive coordinator, now the starting middle linebacker who was going to call the signals and run the defense.
