I know you have heard the news that Eagles starting middle linebacker Stewart Bradley has a torn ACL injury. It means he's out for the season and the Birds will have to move somebody else to that spot.
The guy is probably going to be Omar Gaither. If I were making the call I would put the job up for grabs between Gaither and second year middle backerJoe Mays.
I know Mays is a tremendous talent and has a great nose for the football but Gaither has a much better command of the position and of the defense.
Much of the middle linebacker position is mental. Omar's big advantage is in this aspect of the game.
Gaither takes over when he's in the huddle. He has great instincts for the football.
Mays is a hitter who will cause fumbles with the way he strikes a ball carrier. He would be the better middle linebacker if you're talking about stopping the run and forcing turnovers.
He hasn't been asked to know a total game plan and change the defenses to deal with different formations and motions.
