Kolb Working On Playing Disciplined Football

It was a day off for the 30 and over group at Eagles training camp today and that meant Donovan McNabb was out of action.  it was time for backup quarterbacks Kevin Kolb and A.J. Feeley to shine.

They didn't set the world on fire this morning, but I do like the way Kolb has decided to stay away from turnovers at any cost.

Kolb is working hard at camp and making it a point to stay away from interceptions.  He has had some bad days out here interception-wise, but today he was more conservative with the football.

He was willing to throw the ball to the backs on check downs rather than taking a chance of throwing the ball downfield and getting it picked off.

He experienced the depth of what turnovers can do to a quarterback when he threw the costly interception to Ed Reed last year in the Baltimore game.

There's no question that somebody has talked to him about taking too chances with that football.

Yesterday in the goalline period, Kolb rolled to his right and threw a pass into a crowd in the direction of a covered receiver and the ball was batted up into the air.  Thankfully for him, it wasn't picked off but it was a demonstration of taking too many chances.

He's got to discipline himself and it seemed to day like he was doing it.

A.J. on the other hand is far too careless with football.  Yes he completes them sometimes but too many times, defensive backs are running his passes back the other way.

You can't afford to turn the ball over in the NFL if you expect to win.

I think the gap between McNabb and his backups has increased.   They just don't seem to be on his level when it comes to running this offense, throwing the ball downfield, yet staying away from turnovers.
