I'm just cleaning out my notebook with some other observations from today's training camp.
I'm getting tired of seeing Victor Abiamiri and Jason Peters working out with the trainers on the sideline and not practicing. Both of them look healthy enough to practice, but they spent another day today working with the trainer on the sideline.
I was eager to see Abiamiri show some improvement, but instead, he hasn't practiced a day. The Eagles need a major contribution from him because Juqua Parker (arrest aside) isn't a full-time defensive end.
Peters has been with the team the whole time, he had that one practice and he hasn't practiced since. The offensive line does not look good at all with him and Shawn Andrews out of the lineup. Trent Cole has made it his job to beat up on Todd Herremans and that's not good. Cole is good, but who do they think they'll be facing? Demarcus Ware? Osi Umenyiora? This line needs to play together and this is not good.
And as far as Winston Justice is concerned at the right tackle spot, I'll believe that he's a real player when I see him do it in a game. He's not exactly going against all-world left defensive ends in practice. But he did do a nice job of picking up Dimitri Patterson on a corner blitz, which was good to see.
Back to Abiamiri and Peters, this is where leadership comes in. Team leaders need to get on these guys and tell them that they need to get their butts out there and practice with the team.
One of the jokes of training camp has been the scrambling of AJ Feeley. You’d think he was Donovan, Steve Young or Vince Young. He’s back there running around knowing no one will hit him. It’s a joke to see him out there scrambling. Who is he kidding? He can’t run very well but he pretends to be scrambling.
