Five Is Having Best Camp On Offensive Side

I'm reading all this stuff about DeSean Jackson being the team's best offensive player during training camp and all I can do is shake my head.  With all due respects the Birds best offensive player in camp is Donovan McNabb.

I will give Jackson credit that he is performing like a number one receiver and seems to primed to make a Super Bowl run.

Jackson has great skills and he has been shining at camp.  Only Sheldon Brown and Asante Samuel have been able to cover him at all and that has been rare.

Still you have to keep one-on-one drills in perspective.  They're not a realistic gauge of the way things will occur in a game.  The deck is stacked for the receiver.  Some of the guys he's beating aren't NFL player.

Plus the one area that DeSean will challenged in doesn't happen as much as practice and that's when the corners come up and get physical with him and safeties try to knock his head off.

Teams are going to get physical with him and he must respond this year.  That's his only weakness as I see but that's not going to be challenged in training camp.

You're not going to do that to your own number one receiver but other teams will do it.

Remember he got nailed in one game last year and wasn't the same for the rest of that game against Washington.

On the other hand, Donovan McNabb is head and shoulders better than Kevin Kolb and A.J. Feeley.  I've been out at camp for every day of camp but one and they throw many more interceptions than McNabb despite the fact that he takes more snaps.

Kolb continues to have trouble getting the ball out of his hands on blitzes where as with McNabb a blitz isn't distinguished from any other play.  He gets the ball to the right receiver time and time again.

If Kolb doesn't get away fast enough you hold your breath.  He's getting better but it's not even close.

McNabb's quality play is taken for granted at camp by everybody because it's expected.  He makes great throws at practice and I don't write about very much and neither does anybody else because that's taken for granted..

I think he's putting himself in position to have a big year and the way things are stacking up, they're going to need a big one out of him.

I take my hat off to DeSean Jackson for having a great camp but he's not having the best camp of all the Eagles.  Five is the best player on the Eagles offense and he's going to have to be if they're going to win it all.
