The Eagles are giving Jeremy Maclin a lot of reps with the first team on three wide receiver sets. Quite a few times today, he was working in the place of Kevin Curtis. They were rotating at the spot.
I think they believe that Maclin's speed outside would open up the field for DeSean Jackson on the other side and possibly Curtis playing in the slot.
Remember Curtis had played the slot position for years in St. Louis. His quickness could be best utilized working inside.
I could see them going with a Jackson, Maclin and Curtis three wide receiver group and alternating Jason Avant in there every few nickel plays. Avant is the best receiver on the team when it comes to making the tough catch for a first down.
The youngster has big time deep speed and started getting behind defenders the second he got here at camp. He comes off of the line like there's no way he's going deep, but his stride increases as he's running and he seems to just glide by the defender.
Unfortunately this morning, every time Maclin beat somebody deep the ball was either overthrown, underthrown or thrown to another receiver.
