The Phils are going to have to come up with another option at the closer spot. They can't continue to hand to the ball to Brad Lidge and act like they don't have a problem.
The guy can't throw his pitches where he wants to throw them. Once he gets behind, his stuff isn't good enough to throw the ball down the middle and get people out.
Last year he would get ahead of batters, which forced them to swing at his slider which was low or in the dirt by the time it got to the plate.
Maybe the solution could be Brett Myers. Maybe Ryan Madson can be the answer. Whatever they do it doesn't look like Lidge is going to be able to get the job done.
As for Pedro Martinez and Jamie Moyer, I know a lot of people wanted to see Moyer get the role but how can you hand the ball to the starting pitcher with worst ERA in the National League.
I saw Martinez pitch in Allentown and I don't think he's a good option as a starter. he couldn't make through five innings in the minors without giving up five runs.
He grew tired and couldn't either throw his fastball by the hitters or get his curveball over the plate.
He won't be able to go more than five innings tonight.
